I am sure none of you will be surprised that ABCRM Staff has decided that the risks of holding camp this summer is just too high. We simply could not reconcile social distancing with the activities and practices of camp life.
- Sleeping in cabins/dorm rooms
- Eating meals in the dining hall
- Worshiping in large groups
Clearly some activities, such as hikes could still happen, but much of what happens at camp simply cannot meet the social distancing. Some families would be more than willing to take the risk, but as a staff, we are not willing to take that risk.
What does this mean for campers?
We are looking at new ways of doing “Un-Camp” this summer. Our camp leaders will be pulling together the best ideas for engaging campers the week that camp would normally happen.
- Can we plan local hikes that practice social distancing?
- Can we prepare some camp worship times that include a teaching by one of our pastors and some music from our awesome music team?
- Can we plan and send out craft ideas/boxes to families who register for un-camp?
- Can we have an “Un-Camp” shirt to celebrate and remember that we did more than survive the summer of 2020.
- Can we use the same tools that you are using for worship: Zoom, YouTube, Facebook Live, Instagram, and even TikTok?
In reality, we will do some of all of this.
Our Camp Values remain the same:
- Helping campers and staff develop a growing relationship with God
- Building Community and healthy relationships
- Having fun
We will look forward to seeing you on Facebook, Instagram this summer and at Quaker Ridge Camp in 2021.
Grace and Peace,
Mike Oldham
