What if my child forgets something important?

If you realize it before you leave them at camp, please notify the Camp Coordinator of that age group and the Camp Director, Lauren Parliament.
Once you have gotten home and grabbed the item, please notify Lauren that you are coming back to camp, and what your ETA is.

If you realize it when you get home or your camper calls you, please let Lauren, the Camp Director, know when you plan to bring the item to camp.

In either situation, the camp director may suggest that she can buy it in Woodland Park instead of having you come back to camp later that day or the next day. Obviously, if it is specific medication or something of that sort, she may not be able to assist.

What is the visitor policy?

We do not allow parents to come and check on their child during the week because of safety concern for all of the campers. Every volunteer has done a background check to be on property per Quaker Ridge Camp policy and our camp policy.

However, we do allow pastors to come and see their kids at camp. Pastors all have done background checks through ABCRM.

Can my camper sit out of activities?

Campers are expected to participate in all camp activities unless specifically excused by a doctor or the parent in writing.  The ultimate result of non-participation and/or consistent problem behavior may be the expulsion of the camper from camp and return to home.

Campers are expected to abide by the rules of Quaker Ridge Camp and the American Baptist Churches of the Rocky Mountains (ABCRM) at all times.

What should my child pack for camp?

WHAT TO BRING

  • Must haves: battery operated flashlight, water bottle, and sunscreen!
  • Bedding: Sleeping bag, pillow and/or blankets and sheets for assigned bed. Quaker Ridge does not supply any bedding!  Elementary and Middle School campers have twin beds; Sr. High campers have queen size beds.
  • Towel, soap, shampoo, toothpaste, toothbrush, hand sanitizer, bag for dirty clothes, plastic bag for wet clothes, etc.
  • Bible, notebook, pens/pencils
  • Appropriate/modest swimsuit (1 piece only for girls) and towel (guys, please no Speedos, ugh!)
  • Closed toe shoes needed for outdoor activities
  • For campfire time at night, sweatshirt or fleece hoodie and long pants
  • A cap, extra towel and extra pair of shoes are recommended
  • Camper’s clothing needs to be modest.
  • At least 6 changes of clothing
  • Rain poncho
  • Middle School and High School male and female Campers: need pants or capris for rappelling, low ropes, and high ropes.
  • Money for Snack Shack – soft drinks, t-shirts, candy, ice-cream, popcorn, etc.
  • Prescription and over-the-counter medications. All medications must be in their original packaging with instructions.  All medications will be turned over to the camp nurse.
  • Campers with long hair should bring hair ties that securely hold hair back to keep it out of ropes and carabineers. Loop earrings (and other facial rings) are discouraged because of the potential of serious injury during many camp activities.

WHAT NOT TO BRING

  • Loop earrings (and other facial rings) should not be worn because of the potential of serious injury during many camp activities.
  • We recommend not wearing flip flops and open toed sandals at camp. It really hurts when you jam a tree root or branch into a toe when walking around camp!
  • Clothing that has “questionable” logos or words
  • Guns, explosives, wild animals, alcoholic beverages, illegal drugs (Use common sense)
  • Your camper may bring their mobile phone, but they will be limited as to when and how they can use them. We want the campers to be fully engaged in activities and with the people at camp.

How much money will my child need for camp?

That is the million dollar question.

Your camper will not be able to purchase unlimited quantities of snack items. (We do not get a kickback from their dentist, so no.) For snack items, $25 is usually adequate for snacks. The Quaker Ridge snack shack also sells T-shirts, water bottles, hoodies, etc. So if your child will want to purchase these items, they will need more money. (It would be great if you sent your camper with small bills: $10 and under).

Your camper would love to get a note from you.

Is there an emergency number to call if I need to contact the camp staff?

The Quaker Ridge Camp phone number is (719) 687-9012.

You can reach Lauren Parliament at (720)-907-9992.

We will also have a card available at each registration desk that gives the mobile number for the age group coordinator. For some reason they don’t want their mobile number published on this FAQ page??

Who will be working with my child?

We recruit a great staff of volunteers each summer.

Each volunteer has a background check done and has references checked. Also, every age group has at least 2 people with a minimum of first aid and CPR certifited.

Each age group has a camp coordinator, camp pastor, and cabin leaders.

What happens if my child is injured at camp?

Yes, it happens. We do not wrap your child in bubble wrap for the week. We will do everything possible to keep your child safe, but accidents happen.

If your child is injured, the camp medical staff (nurse, CNA, or EMT) will assess the injury as soon as possible. Antibiotic ointment and ice are the camp nurse’s best friends!

If the injury is more serious, they will be taken to the Emergency Room in Woodland Park. On your registration form, you completed a section for your insurance. Please double check that everything is correct. Your insurance company will be billed for the ER visit.

If the injury is a minor scrape or bruise, we probably won’t call you. For more serious injuries, we will contact you as soon as the situation has been assessed.

Are there rules that my camper should be aware of?

We try to keep the rules pretty simple at camp. We want to spend time building relationships not enforcing rules.

  • Love  God  with  your  whole  heart,  mind,  and  spirit  and  your  neighbor  as  yourself.  In other words . . .
  • Have  fun,  learn  as  much  as  possible,  spend  time  with  God,  make new friends  and  connect  with  old  friends,  and  enjoy  the  beauty  of  God’s creation.
  • Respect  your  fellow  campers  and  staff
(no weapons, no  profanity,  no  bullying,  or  fighting).
  • Respect  the  space  of  other  campers:  stay  with  your age group, don’t enter cabins or rooms of the opposite gender, and only enter your room.
If  it  doesn’t  belong  to  you,  leave  it  alone.
  • Respect  and  care  for  camp  property  (no  fireworks,  matches,  lighters,  vandalism, littering, don’t  climb  on  a roof  or  try  to  catch  fish  in  the  pond,  etc.)
  • Use  common  sense. Don’t  bring  your  pets,  play  with  bears, mountain lions, or other wild  animals. Don’t bring  your four-wheeler. If you bring your car, leave it parked until the end of camp. Please use caution when driving on camp property (and when you leave).
  • Camp  staff  will  discuss  how  and  when  you  can  use  your  cell  phone.
Remember,  camp is a  time  to  get  away,  not  to  text  every  ten  seconds.
